U.S. Oral Surgery Management
Regional Director of Operations

Southeast Region (Florida/Georgia)

Summary:

The Rottman Group has been retained to find a Regional Director of Operations for US Oral Surgery Management (www.usosm.com) for their practices in the Georgia/Florida region. This person could be based anywhere in the region with good airport access.    USOSM was the first Shared Service Organization (SSO) in the oral surgery space.  They have set the standard of success in how to build and develop a top-notch physician management organization.

Organization:

There are approximately 7,500 oral surgeons in the United States. It is a very

fragmented market with 94% of all US oral surgeons operating independently.

The oral and maxillofacial surgery market today is approximately $9 billion with

an additional $5 billion in dental implant services.

US Oral Surgery Management (USOSM) was the first shared services platform for

oral surgeons and the clear leader of this sector today.

The initial USOSM platform was formed in November 2017 by RiverGlade Capital

and the Thurston Group through the combination of two oral surgery groups in

Austin and Dallas.  The initial two anchor practices consisted of 18 physicians in

17 locations. Fast forward five years and USOSM has grown to 72 groups consisting of 222 physicians in 24 states.  USOSM completed a recapitalization (December 2021) with Oak Hill Capital (www.oakhill.com) valued at $700M+ and are poised to continue their pace of growth.  Since that time, 12 months later, USOSM is exceeding their planned growth.  This will likely accelerate the timeframe of their next recapitalization. Aside from normal retirement or associate movement, they have had ZERO physician turnover.

Beyond a winning platform and model, USOSM has an outstanding leadership team with a very positive culture, spearheaded by Rick Hall, CEO.  Rick has fostered a very team driven culture.   Big egos and corporate politics don’t exist here.  They would stick out like a sore thumb and eliminated as soon as they surfaced.  You’ll find a team of people to work with who are genuine and authentic.

Another very important thing to point out about USOSM is that before they started integrating practices, a full leadership team and infrastructure had been developed. They have not been in a “fake it till you make it” mode or mentality. This is a very well thought out, well put together organization you can be proud to represent with confidence of competence.

The Role:

Reporting to an SVP of Operations, the Regional Director of Operations will initially be responsible for 12 practices consisting of 35 physicians, operating in 36 locations.  Nine of the practices are in Georgia, two in Florida, with a third in Florida about to come online.  It is anticipated that the scope responsibility will continue to grow as there are several other practices in the development process in this region.

With the number of new practices and continued growth, this person must be a go-getter, well organized, able to roll up their sleeves when necessary.  They need to be able to assess and develop the site level leadership of each practice.

Overall, this person will provide strategic direction and leadership within an assigned geography. This includes:

  • Budgeting resources and expenses as necessary to achieve a positive outcome within the region

  • Providing mentorship and coaching to a team of clinical and non-clinical professionals

  • Building trusting and open relationships within the partner network

  • Coordinating, monitoring, and managing the region’s ~$60M P&L

  • Improving processes, policies, and practices to achieve company goals and ensure practices adhere to company-wide established rules and guidelines

  • Incorporating POWER values into daily activities focusing on process improvements, patient improvements, patient safety, and premier patient satisfaction

  • Addressing top growth priorities, focusing on same practice growth and provide due diligence and operational conversions on acquisitions

  • Attracting talent to ensure a competent team capable of carrying out business strategies

  • Supporting a culture of strong performance management and accountability by mentoring staff and providing frequent and constructive feedback

  • Proven experience leading a high performing team

  • Healthcare site management preferred, ideally multi-site and multi-state management

  • Proven success engaging with medical doctors and physician groups

Compensation:

This person will have a competitive base salary, 20% bonus, along with the Director level equity participation. There is also a full set of benefits.
