The Rottman Group has been retained to find a Practice Administrator for an 8 physician, two-location practice in Midland & Odessa, TX.  This practice is component of “TOPA” (Texas Oncology, P.A.) and on a larger scale part of U.S. Oncology. This is a great opportunity to lead the continued growth and development of these successful practices.


The Opportunity

There are 8 full time oncologists that make up this overall practice 3 medical and 1 radiation oncologist in Midland and 3 medical and 1 radiation oncologist in Odessa .  Each have brand new physical locations with the very latest in technology and equipment.  There is also both pediatric and gynecological oncologists that visit the practice. 

There is approximately $40M in revenue generated by these practices.

There are approximately 100 employees that this person will lead.  Each site has a nurse manager and chief radiation technologist, pharmacist, lab, and business office leaders. 

There are no other oncologists in either Midland or Odessa .  This practice has the opportunity to continue to expand its service offerings as well as to further develop the geographical reach of the practice. 

They have already implemented and are fully functional with an EMR system.

This practice is a subgroup of Texas Oncology.  Texas Oncology is the world's largest group of medical professionals devoted exclusively to cancer care. With 275 practicing physicians, Texas Oncology serves patients at 98 locations throughout Texas and New Mexico , including 33 comprehensive cancer centers.

As the Practice Administrator, this person will provide overall strategic, operational, and financial leadership for these practices.  This is a great opportunity for someone to lead a large, complex operation.

This person needs to be able to:

·        effectively manage operations through change and transition 

·        be a market strategist and development oriented

·        be operationally sound and interactive

·        be a developmental mentor to a leadership team

·        set the tone for a positive, supportive work environment

·        effectively facilitate physician relations 

·        lead the development of new program/service offerings

·        lead effectively in a competitive market

They need to possess superior leadership competencies.   Any program, ancillary service development would be a plus.

In contrast to a stand alone practice setting, this person will have a very broad set of support resources. 

This person needs to be someone that is able to be both a visionary strategist as well as a hands-on operational leader. 


Quality of Life


Located in the Permian Basin in west Texas, the combined Midland/Odessa market is home to approximately 250,000 Midland ballpark people.  The Midland International Airport’s new $35 million dollar terminal is situated about halfway between Midland and Odessa and is the ninth largest airport in Texas.  The area is home to the University of Texas of the Permian Basin as well as Odessa College.

A diverse choice of activities range from the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, to the Monahans Sandhills State Park.  There are more than a dozen golf courses in the area, as well as more than 50 parks.  There are sporting events and activities to fit every taste, including baseball (Midland is home to the Rockhounds), hockey (Odessa has the Jackalopes), competitiveOdessa meteor crater swimming, polo, sand volleyball and much more.  The area has over twenty malls and shopping centers.  The Midland - Odessa area is a very diverse culture with a rich and unique history…including the 2nd largest meteor crater in the United States.
