Director of Radiology
The
Rottman Group has been retained to find a Director of Radiology for Redmond
Regional Medical Center, an acute care medical center in Rome, Georgia.
This is an incredibly successful facility in a high quality of life area, just
northwest of Atlanta.
The
Position
The
Director of Radiology is responsible for directing the overall operations of the
department of radiology for this busy regional medical
center. This person will lead a staff of 52 FTEs. This is a highly
cross-trained staff of radiology technologists, MRI techs, and CT techs.
Redmond Regional is a clinical rotation site for students in the local radiology
technologist training program. They are blessed to be the employer of
choice in the radiology tech community in the area, using no agency staffing and
having very little turnover or vacancies.
This is a full service radiology department. A wide array of
state-of-the-art diagnostic services is available through Redmond Regional
Medical Center's Radiology Department. A recent renovation has given the
department a more than adequate amount of space. Among the equipment: two
CT scanners, including a Light Speed CT Scanner, GE Twinspeed MRI, 3-D
reconstructive angiography, three transcranial Doppler systems, and multiple
x-rays and laser cameras. Redmond Regional has six SPECT scanners, and has
access to a PET scanner at an off-site joint-venture imaging center. A
GE 16-slice CT scanner will be added in February 2004, and $1.3 million has been
approved for adding an additional angio room. A decision will be made in the
next six months regarding a provider for PACs technology. Meditech is the
radiology information system used at Redmond Regional. Though they are using it
at a basic level, there is opportunity to gain more utility from the system.
We
are looking for an experienced radiology leader who is development oriented.
There is good access to capital for the department as seen in the additional
equipment and addition of PACs. There may be the opportunity to develop a
freestanding imaging center in the future. Redmond Regional is looking for
someone who can bring a sense of entrepreneurial vision and drive to the
organization. The facility is one of the most successful in the HCA
division and organization, allowing for continued growth and access to
development resources.

The Organization
Redmond
Regional Medical Center is a 200-bed acute care hospital, which is part of HCA
Healthcare. They serve a local population of 34,000, a county population
of over 90,000, and a referral base well beyond this. Based on their
success, they have recently gained approval for a certificate of need to add an
additional 29 beds. Redmond Regional is currently the second most
profitable facility in its division, which includes more than 20 HCA hospitals
in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Its financial success is
due in part to their flourishing
surgical
programs. Georgia is a certificate of need state, and Redmond has the CON
for the neurology and open-heart programs in town (the other hospital in Rome,
Floyd Medical Center, has the CON for obstetrics and pediatrics). In
cardiac services, Redmond Regional did 650 open-heart surgeries and 7000 caths,
an astounding volume for a hospital of its size.
Although Redmond has been financially successful, they are also an excellent
care provider and have been recognized for their high level of clinical care.
Redmond Regional is rated in the top 5% in the nation for orthopedics and #2 in
the state for orthopedic clinical outcomes. They are in the top 15% in the
nation for chest pain service, and are rated in the Top 10 within HCA for
cardiac catheterization. The hospital is #4 among all HCA hospitals for
their physician satisfaction surveys.
Much of the success of the organization must be attributed to its quality and
consistent leadership. CEO Jamie Thomas has been with Redmond Regional for
over 10 years. He is visible within the facility and is the type of
administrator who knows each employee by name. He sets a high standard for
everyone who is part of the Redmond Regional team, especially in way of being
patient/guest focused.
This is a great opportunity to be part of a successful organization that has a
high quality team of individuals working together for common goals. This
person will have a wonderfully supportive environment and be expected to strive
for personal and organizational excellence.

The
Area
Located
as a center point between three metropolitan southern cities, Atlanta,
Chattanooga, and Birmingham, Rome is rated among the best places to live, work,
and do business in America. A vibrant, supportive business climate compliments
Rome's strategic location, affordable real estate, and skilled workforce. These
qualities alone attract high-caliber businesses and industries, yet it's the
unmatched quality of life in Rome that keeps them here. When you spend
time in Rome and Floyd County it's easy to get caught up in the slower pace of
this gracious Southern City. Rome's three rivers provide miles of
walking trails in which to relax and enjoy the scenery. The main hub of downtown
Rome is Broad Street, with its carefully preserved and revitalized antique and
specialty shops, cafes, galleries, restaurants, museums and landmarks. Rome is
also home to many chain restaurants, three movie theatres, a major regional
mall, and various outdoor recreational activities.
In
the past decade, Rome has made a steady climb to national prominence. It is an
understatement to say that the area is a wonderful place to live and do
business, but that very statement has been made several times recently.
According to the new book, The New Rating Guide to Life in America's Small
Cities, Rome, Georgia is rated the Most Livable Small City in the Southeast.
Rome has also been ranked 12th out of 193
small
cities in the country, placing higher than any other small city in Georgia and
in the Southeast. The guide rates quality in ten areas: climate/environment,
diversions, economics, education, community assets, healthcare, housing, public
safety, transportation, and urban proximity.
Nestled
among 5,000 acres about ten minutes from Rome is the Rocky Mountain Recreation
Area, which is perfect for swimming, fishing, hiking and camping.
Largemouth bass and sunfish are abundant in the two recreational lakes. Park
your RV or pitch your tent in primitive camping areas. You may even run into
some of the frequent wildlife visitors like whitetail deer, turkey or waterfowl.
Nature is at its best here—where the trees meet the mountain vistas.
With three rivers, you have plenty of waterways for fishing, canoeing and
boating. Rome has many private and public golf courses, an outstanding
tennis program, and is home to the 2003 South Atlantic League Champion Rome
Braves baseball team, a Class "A" affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
Who
says you can't have big city culture in a small town? You're in for a pleasant
surprise. Supported by the Rome Area Council for the Arts, Rome has a vigorous,
strong community of visual, performing and literary artists. Take in a play at
the Rome Little Theatre, or enjoy The Rome
Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1921, the oldest symphony in the South, for an
outdoor concert, or buy a piece of original art. Rome caters to the distinctive
style in everyone.
You'll
also be glad to know that even Rome's educational institutions are nationally
recognized. Shorter College began Rome's tradition of educational excellence
over 125 years ago. As one of the first schools in Georgia to be accredited by
the National Association of Schools of Music, Shorter is known as one of the
finest musical schools in the Southeast. The largest campus in the world belongs
to Rome's own Berry College. The phenomenal 28,000-acre campus is home to one of
the country's best liberal arts institutions. With the average student age of
28, Floyd College meets the educational needs of all types of students. This
two-year unit of the University System of Georgia enables students to obtain
their associate’s degree or prepare for their bachelors. Students at Coosa
Valley Technical College (CVT) train for today's changing needs of business and
industry. Educational opportunities include over 30 diploma programs, 20
technical certificate programs and even an associate's degree program through
joint enrollment with Floyd College. Rome is also home to Rome City and Floyd
County Schools, two of the finest public systems in Georgia. In addition,
Darlington School is a 430-acre, internationally renowned boarding school
providing education from Pre-K to the 12th grade. With approximately 900
students from 20 states and 24 countries, Darlington offers a student to teacher
ratio of 6 to 1 and an average class size of 13 students. Each year 99 %
of Darlington students choose to continue their education after graduation and
are awarded nearly 2 million dollars in scholarships.
