Summary:

The Rottman Group has been retained by the Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside , CA to find a Clinical Manager (Director) of their level III NICU.  This is a great opportunity to lead and continue to develop a progressive NICU service in a well lead, growing facility in a great quality of life area.

The Organization:

Tri-City Medical Center, www.tri-citymed.com, is a well led, 397 bed district hospital based in Oceanside , California .  Coastally situated between San Diego and Los Angeles , Tri-City Medical Center stands at the crossroad of the most advanced healthcare available and the changing healthcare needs of North County residents. Their dedicated healthcare professionals and support staff have an unwavering commitment to providing the most comprehensive, compassionate care possible.

Tri- City Medical Center is the only acute care hospital in Oceanside , a community of 170,000 people.  It has a long successful history as well as outstanding leadership.  A wonderful addition to the executive leadership team last year, Suellyn Ellerbe, CNO/COO, has a personal appreciation for children’s services, having been a Vice President at Children’s Hospital in Oakland as well as Washington D.C. .  Suellyn brings a very strong commitment to excellence in patient care.  She is very supportive of clinical education and development.

  The Position:

As Clinical Manager, NICU, this person will lead both the operations and clinical development of this 20-bed, level III NICU.  This person will lead a staff of 36 RNs.  The unit stays fairly full with an average daily census of 18.  With the anticipated growth in the area, it is expected that the NICU will see a 50% growth over the next 5 years.  They need someone with vision that can lead this growth operationally as well as leading the clinical development of the staff.

There is a strong commitment to staff education.  They are currently in process of adding a clinical nurse specialist for the NICU.  In the meantime, they have brought in outside expertise to aid in the clinical education for the NICU.

This person needs to be someone with clinical credibility, but most importantly, embodies excellent leadership competencies.  There is a seasoned staff to work with low turnover.  Though they have had a manager, they have been without true leadership for some time.  There is a great opportunity for this person to make a difference and positive impact.

Community:

Known for it’s beautiful beaches, attractive harbor and near perfect weather, Oceanside is located 35 miles north of San Diego and 90 miles south of Los Angeles – far enough away to still have small town appeal, but close enough to provide access to urban amenities.  With a population of approximately 170,000, Oceanside is large enough to have great shopping and amenities without the traffic and congestion of a major metropolitan market.

Oceanside ranks as the 5th most favored climate in the world, with temperatures ranging from an average of 59 degrees in January to 78 degrees in July. Annual rainfall averages are between 8 to 10 inches, with the majority of precipitation falling December through April.

Best of all, Oceanside still has some of the best real estate values in all of Southern California . Oceanside was recently listed as one of the "Hottest Markets for Vacation Homes" in an article on Wall Street Journal's website

Centrally located in the heart of the beautiful Southern California coastline, Oceanside is among the region's best places to escape the hustle and bustle of the crowded cities. Considered the gateway city between metropolitan San Diego and Los Angeles , its near-perfect climate invites you to revel and relax at the 3.5 miles of white sandy beaches Oceanside offers. Step back in time by visiting the historic Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, the "King of the Missions", and Heritage Park . Whatever your preference, recreational opportunities in Oceanside compliment every lifestyle.

Compensation and Benefitis:

This role will have a very competitive base salary.  Along with this, the person will participate in a Management Incentive Program in which they can earn up to an additional 12% of their salary in bonus.

Along with health, vision, dental etc. benefits, Tri-City Medical center has a very generous retirement program.  There are three components of it.

  1. Social Security option:  Instead of paying in 6.5% of your compensation to Social Security, you pay 6.7% (pre-tax) to an investment option account.  Tri-City Medical Center then pays an additional 4.5% of your income into this account.  You are 100% vested in this immediately
  2. Voluntary Deferred Compensation, like a 401k that you can contribute to.
  3. Money Accumulation Pension Plan.  As long as you contribute 2% to your income to this retirement plan, Tri-City Medical Center matches 6%.

I would typically not outline specific benefits, most being too similar to matter.  However, the retirement plan here is significant and considered an upside to most typical plans.
